Diméthylfumarate: une nouvelle victime malgré son interdiction

L'Union européenne a interdit, le 5 juin 2012, toute importation des articles traités au diméthylfumarate (DMFu). Ce biocide allergisant contenu notamment dans des fauteuils et canapés vendus notamment par la chaîne d'ameublement Conforama avait été responsable de différentes pathologies comme des brûlures, de l'eczéma, des affections respiratoires, des pertes de cheveux ou encore des douleurs musculaires. A l’époque, j’avais salué cette décision tout en regrettant vivement que la Commission européenne ait tardé à réagir.

En effet, jusqu'en juin 2012, l'interdiction de ce biocide était seulement transitoire. Depuis 2009, cette interdiction devait être renouvelée tous les ans. Suite à la série de graves problèmes de santé qui ont touché les consommateurs de plusieurs pays européens (France, Finlande, Pologne, Royaume-Uni, Suède). L'Union européenne avait interdit à partir du 1er mai 2009 la mise sur le marché des produits contenant du DMFu et imposé le rappel des produits contaminés encore disponibles sur le marché pour une durée d'au moins un an renouvelable.

Malgré cette récente interdiction, des produits importés contenant du diméthylfumarate parviennent toujours à passer les frontières européennes.

Mercredi 7 novembre, le journal local "Le réveil Normand" exhibait à sa Une la joue rougie et tuméfiée de Marie, 4 ans, petite fille victime d'une allergie au fongicide, destiné à empêcher les moisissures, qui se trouvait dans le tee-shirt et la jupette que ses parents lui avaient acheté pour son anniversaire.

Les cas d'empoisonnement au diméthylfumarate restent relativement fréquents soit parce que les consommateurs revendent des produits achetés avant l'interdiction, soit parce qu'ils achètent des produits importés de Chine qui sont contaminés malgré l'interdiction du fongicide sur le territoire national.

Dans l'affaire de la petite fille, tous les moyens des services de l'État ont été mis en œuvre afin que les stocks restants de vêtements identiques à ceux de la petite fille soient retirés de la circulation dans tout le territoire de la communauté de communes du Pays de L'Aigle.
