Fin de l'Accord de Pêche entre l'Union Européenne et le Maroc

Le mercredi 14 décembre dernier, le Parlement européen (PE) a mis fin à l'accord de pêche entre l'Union Européenne et le Maroc jusque février 2012.

Je regrette sincèrement le résultat du vote sur cet accord. Cependant, en tant que Président du Groupe d'Amitié UE-Maroc, je ferai en sorte que l'UE continue à soutenir les autres accords commerciaux conclus avec le Maroc, notamment en ce qui concerne le partenariat agricole.

Ces accords commerciaux sont essentiels dans la mesure où ils permettent  de conforter le Maroc dans sa transition démocratique et dans le statut avancé que lui a accordé l'Union Européenne. Les premières victimes de ce vote sont les européens eux-mêmes, et en particulier les pêcheurs qui avaient accès aux eaux marocaines.

En particulier au sein du Groupe d'Amitié, nous ferons tout pour faire oublier ce vote et renouer le dialogue en vue notamment de mettre fin à la désinformation qui instrumentalise la question du Sahara Occidental. Il faut mettre fin à ce mélange des genres récurrent chez certains eurodéputés où on voit mis en avant de manière systématique la question du Sahara lorsque différents dossiers de nature commerciale avec le Maroc sont évoqués. Cette approche risque en effet de nous aliéner un partenaire stratégique et constructif dans le cadre du partenariat euro-méditerranéen à un moment crucial où le Maroc est en train de constituer un nouveau gouvernement.
